Went up to Fraserburgh on the strength of the forecast, even though there was not much wind in Newburgh. There were several fronts due to come in during the day and all the forecasts were promising minimum 15mph westerlies. However, I arrived and the wind was pretty marginal, and just as I stopped to survey the beach from the carpark by the little harbour at Inveralochy, Rob turned up having had exactly the same idea about the wind as me. We'd been in touch in the morning and decided we would see what the weather was doing at 1:00pm before deciding, but we both went up anyway independantly to check the conditions. All the fronts seemed to be passing just to the south of us, but we went for a freestyle session in the shallows anyway rather than having a wasted journey, but the wind dropped from around 12mph to around 1 mph so we started to pack up. However, having just got changed with the board and rigs still ready, a massive front of black clouds came out of nowhere from the west, so we waited to see what would happen. The wind changed direction completely to an easterly and picked up a bit, and then as the cloud came overhead, the wind dropped again. Nothing else seemed to be happening, so we decided to definately call it a day as the water had gone mirror flat. Got home around 6:45pm and by 8:30pm, the wind was blowing a solid 20mph from the west as predicted. Typical!
